Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional correspondent. She became chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She has covered several notable reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
